Therapeutic Practices

  • Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing: EMDR aims to help individuals reprocess traumatic experiences, reducing their emotional intensity and facilitating adaptive resolution. EMDR has been widely used to treat conditions such as post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and has shown effectiveness in helping individuals overcome the impact of disturbing events.

  • Somatic Experiencing: Is a body-oriented approach to healing trauma developed by Dr. Peter A. Levine. It focuses on the physiological and sensory experiences associated with trauma, emphasizing the body's natural ability to self-regulate and release pent-up energy. In SE therapy, individuals are guided to pay attention to bodily sensations, promoting the completion of the body's stress response cycle.

  • Internal Family Systems: IFS therapy is an approach developed by Dr. Richard Schwartz that views the mind as a system of various sub-personalities or "parts." In IFS, these parts are explored and understood to facilitate healing and integration. The therapy involves identifying and engaging with different parts of oneself, each representing specific emotions, memories, or aspects of the individual's personality.

  • Polyvagal Theory Approach: This theory was developed by Stephen Porges, emphasizes the role of the autonomic nervous system in regulating emotional and physiological states. This theory highlights how our physiological state can impact our emotional experiences and social behaviors, offering insights into disorders related to stress and trauma.

  • Attachment Theory Approach: Originally developed by John Bowlby and later expanded by Mary Ainsworth, explores the deep emotional bonds formed between infants and their primary caregivers. It posits that these early relationships shape an individual's social and emotional development throughout life. The theory identifies different attachment styles—secure, anxious, avoidant, and disorganized—that influence how people perceive and respond to relationships.

  • Multicultural Therapy: Multicultural Therapy is an approach to psychotherapy that recognizes and integrates cultural diversity in the therapeutic process. Developed to address the unique needs and experiences of individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds, this therapeutic model acknowledges the influence of culture, ethnicity, race, gender, sexual orientation, and other factors on a person's identity and mental health.

  • Strength Based: Is an approach to psychotherapy that focuses on identifying and utilizing an individual's strengths, resources, and resilience to promote personal growth and positive change. Instead of concentrating on deficits or pathology, this therapeutic model emphasizes the client's existing capabilities and assets. Therapists in strength-based therapy collaborate with clients to recognize and build upon their strengths, skills, and positive attributes. The goal is to empower individuals by fostering a sense of competence, self-efficacy, and optimism.
